Sary-Chelek Lake

The famous Sary-Chelek Lake is located in the Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve. Also in the reserve there are 6 more lakes: Kyla, Aram Lake, Choychok Lake, Big Lake and two small lakes - Bakali and Tua Lakes. From the mouth of the reserve to the lake to reach Sary-Chelek Lake you have to walk a long way. Its length is about 15-20 km. Along the way, densely populated trees grow on the foothills, slopes and ridges, and the mountains are covered with green grass and flowers. According to scientists, Lake Sary-Chelek It was formed after an earthquake 10,000 years ago. With an area of ​​492 hectares, it is 7.5 km long and 2.3 km wide. Its average depth is 98 meters and its deepest point is 244 meters. As a result, Kyrgyzstan is the second largest city after Issyk-Kul. It is the second deepest lake. Sary-Chelek Lake is located at an altitude of 1878 meters above sea level.
