Monument of Courage

The Monument of Courage is a memorial dedicated to the resilience of the Uzbek people who rebuilt Tashkent after the devastating earthquake of April 26, 1966. Unveiled on May 20, 1976, the monument stands in central Tashkent. Its centerpiece is a granite cube marking the time of the first tremor 5:23 a.m. In front of it, an Uzbek man shields a woman and child from the earth splitting beneath them. Surrounding granite reliefs depict the city’s reconstruction. The memorial honors both the survivors and those who helped rebuild the city, symbolizing unity and strength.
