Lyabi Hauz

Lyabi Hauz is a historic architectural ensemble in the heart of Bukhara, built in the 17th century. Its name means “by the pond,” referring to the central artificial reservoir. The ensemble includes the Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah, Nadir Divan-Begi Khanaka (Sufi hospice), and Kukeldash Madrasah. The pond itself measures 42 × 36 meters and is 5 meters deep. During the Soviet era, most city ponds were filled in due to health concerns, but Lyabi Hauz survived thanks to its cultural significance. Today, it remains a popular gathering place for locals and visitors, offering tranquility and historical charm.
