Gorogly
Gorogly is the administrative center of the Görogly district in the Dashoguz Province of Turkmenistan and a settlement with city status. Located 20 km south of Dashoguz, it was named in 2002 in honor of the heroic epic of the Turkmen people, "Göroğlu." During the Soviet era, the area was known as "Tagta" and was registered as an urban-type settlement. The word "Tagta" means "board" or "slab" in Turkmen; according to Atanyyazow, this name is related to the wooden dam and bridge constructed in the area. In June 2016, Görogly was granted city status by a parliamentary decision. The same decision incorporated the village of Sazakly, which falls under the Magtymguly village council, and the villages of Akderek and Polasoltan, which fall under the Turkmenýoly council, into the city of Görogly. The city's name and history are strongly linked to the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people.
