Takhaui Akhtanov Drama Theatre

The Takhaui Akhtanov Drama Theatre is one of the leading cultural institutions in Aktobe, Kazakhstan. It is a professional drama theatre with both Kazakh and Russian troupes. Founded in 1935 on the initiative of People’s Commissar Temirbek Zhurgenov, the theatre’s first director was G. Omarov. Early productions included “Enlik – Kebek,” “Kyz Zhibek,” and “Amangeldy.” In 1996, the theatre was named after writer and playwright Takhaui Akhtanov. Today, it stages both classical and contemporary plays in Kazakh and Russian, and regularly tours nationally and internationally.
